Mock Draft

ScoutHype Mock Draft, Final Edition

Round 1
1. IND-Andrew Luck QB/Stanford
Notes:  Luck was already informed that he would be the first pick. He is arguably the best prospect in the last decade, and the obvious successor at quarterback to Peyton Manning for the Colts.
2. WAS-Robert Griffin III QB/Baylor
Notes: The Redskins basically mortgaged their future to move up and pick Griffin. This is a no-brainer.
3. MIN-Matt Kalil OT/USC
Notes: The Vikings could also go Claiborne, or Blackmon here, but Kalil is the best offensive linemen in the draft and could provide left tackle stability for last year's first rounder Christian Ponder.
4. CLE-Trent Richardson RB/Alabama
Notes: The Browns had a problem with finding the endzone last season, and they'd love to have someone who can put some points on the board. Richardson is a rare back, and has potential to be elite.
5. TB-Morris Claiborne CB/LSU
Notes: Claiborne is the best defensive prospect in the draft, and selecting him will sure up the shaky secondary for the Bucs.
6. STL-Justin Blackmon WR/Oklahoma St.
Notes: As the Rams stockpile their picks from the trade with Washington, they can begin to build around Sam Bradford. Blackmon has moved down on some boards, but still has potential to be a very good #1.
7. JAX-Michael Floyd WR/Notre Dame
Notes: Floyd has climbed up draft boards in the months leading up to the draft, but the Jags desperately need a playmaker, and Floyd fits the mold.
8. MIA-Ryan Tannehill QB/Texas A&M
Notes: The biggest over-hyped prospect in this year's draft, the Dolphins are in need of QB. Tannehill has potential to be a very good QB, but will need some time to develop.
9. CAR-Fletcher Cox DT/Mississippi St.
Notes: The Panthers organization is on its way up, but first, their defense needs help. Cox brings in a athletic defensive tackle that will sure up their interior defensive line.
10. BUF-Stephon Gilmore CB/South Carolina
Notes: The Bills added Mario Williams this past off-season and by drafting Gilmore they can continue to bolster their D. Gilmore is a close second to LSU's Morris Claiborne.
11. KC-Melvin Ingram DE/South Carolina
Notes: Ingram will provide a nice compliment to Tamba Hali coming off the edge for the Chiefs.
12. SEA-Luke Kuechly ILB/Boston College
Notes: Some say Kuechly is the all-around purest football player in the draft, and may be the safest pick. Seattle needs to restock its D and Kuechly can be a future anchor.
13. ARI-Riley Reiff OT/Iowa
Notes: Cardinals need to add depth and another stud on the offensive linemen. They need to take Reiff if he falls to them.

14. DAL-Mark Barron S/Alabama
Notes: Dallas' secondary has been weak the past few seasons, but gradually continues to improve. Barron is a game-changing safety in a weak class of safeties.
15. PHI-Dontario Poe DT/Memphis
Notes: Andy Reid loves drafting linemen, offensive or defensive, in the first round. Reid's philosophy possibly stays true this year by drafting Poe.
16. NYJ-Courtney Upshaw OLB/Alabama
Notes: The Jets D has been its strong point the past few seasons, but took a hit last year. Upshaw is a playmaking linebacker that is around the ball every play.
17. CIN-David DeCastro OG/Stanford
Notes: With their first round pick, the Bengals fill a need, by selecting the best interior offensive lineman in the draft, DeCastro.
18. SD-Quinton Coples DE/UNC
Notes: Once considered a Top 10 pick, Coples has slid a most boards. The Chargers would be getting a steal here at 18 and are in desperate need of a pass rusher.
19. CHI-Cordy Glenn OG/Georgia
Notes: With franchise quarterback Cutler getting hit way too much than he should have last year, Glenn improves the Bears' weakness right away.
20. TEN-Dre Kirkpatrick CB/Alabama
Notes: With the loss of Courtland Finnegan, the Titans need to fill a hole. Kirkpatrick is a freak athlete with good coverage skills and has Pro Bowl potential in the near future.
21. CIN-Kendall Wright WR/Baylor
Notes: Wright provides the Bengals with another wide out playmaker opposite of A.J. Green.
22. CLE-Jonathan Martin OT/Stanford
Notes: While the Browns could use this pick and their second round pick to trade up higher into the first round to draft another offensive playmaker, Martin is a safe pick to solidify an already good offensive line.
23. DET-Mike Adams OT/Ohio St.
Notes: Although knocked for not lifting enough at the combine, The Lions need to solidify their offensive line for Matthew Stafford, and Adams is the right pick here at 23.
24. PIT-Dont'a Hightower ILB/Alabama
Notes: The Steelers are still considered to have one of the best defenses in the league, but age is definitely a concern. Hightower is a large specimen and can develop into a great linebacker under Dick Lebeau.
25. DEN-Michael Brockers DT/LSU
Notes: If Brockers is there at 25, the Broncos will gladly draft him. If this occurs, this could be the biggest steal of the draft.
26. HOU-Stephen Hill WR/Georgia Tech
Notes: The Texans have been searching for a compliment to Andre Johnson to relieve some pressure. Stephen Hill has breakaway speed and, if used properly, can change games.
27. NE-Doug Martin RB/Boise St.
Notes: With the Law-Firm departing in free agency, Martin provides another solid running option in the, already lethal, New England offensive attack.
28. GB-Derek Wolfe DT/Cincinnati
Notes: Green Bay had one of the worst defenses last season. Luckily, their offense was able to keep up. Adding a presence in the middle of the line like Wolfe will improve the run and pass game.
29. BAL-Alshon Jeffery WR/South Carolina
Notes: Could be the biggest steal in the draft. Jeffery has fallen on many draft boards, but his potential and talent would definitely help the Ravens' offense.
30. SF-Janoris Jenkins CB/North Alabama
Notes: Although Jenkins has been scrutinized heavily for his off the field issues, there's no denying his on field talent. Jenkins can solidify the 49ers secondary for years to come.
31. NE-Shea McLellin OLB/Boise St.
Notes: Sources have confirmed that the Patriots will make McLellin their guy if he is still there with one of their first rounders.
32. NYG-Nick Perry DE/USC
Notes: Although New York is fairly set on the D-Line, they usually draft BPA. Perry can fill a hole should Tuck leave or get injured, and he's very versatile.

Round 2
33. STL-Chandler Jones DE/Syracuse
Notes: Jones has first round talent, but if he falls to the second, the Rams will be glad to take him with the first pick of the second round.
34. IND-Peter Konz C/Wisconsin
Notes: With the departure of Jeff Saturday, Andrew Luck will need an anchor on the O-Line. Konz was excellent at Wisconsin and is sure to step in immediately.
35. MIN-Josh Robinson CB/UCF
Notes: Robinson is a dual threat, as a corner and kick/punt returner. Not taking Claiborne in the first will prompt the Vikes to take a corner in the second round.
36. TB-Lavonte David OLB/Nebraska
Notes: Tampa Bay is a confusing team, especially the past two seasons. Adding Claiborne and David will start to build their defense into a force to be reckoned with.
37. CLE-Brandon Weeden QB/Oklahoma St.
Notes: If Weeden was five years younger, we feel like he would be a lock as a first rounder, but its the NFL and his age sadly hurts him. But the Browns will grab a great quarterback that would compete for the starting role if they take Weeden.
38. JAX-Andre Branch DE/Clemson
Notes: With the Jags filling a hole at WR in the first round, defense is next. Branch is a mobile DE that can be a force in the pass rushing game.
39. STL-Jerel Worthy DT/Michigan St.
Notes: First round talent that is a disruptive force in the middle when he wants to be.
40. CAR-Mohamed Sanu WR/Rutgers
Notes: Although Steve Smith had a breakout season, he can't do it all. Cam Newton needs some help with the deep ball and Sanu was a model of consistency at Rutgers.
41. BUF-Harrison Smith S/Notre Dame
Notes: Another prospect that could slide into the end of the first round, Smith is a distinctive safety that could start for the Bills right away.
42. MIA-Whitney Mercilus DE/Illinois
Notes: Miami's D was very good last year, but went overlooked because of their atrocious offense. Mercilus can compliment Cameron Wake in a big way, and they could be a dynamic 1-2 punch.
43. SEA-David Wilson RB/Virginia Tech
Notes: Wilson has the potential to be an elite back, and he would provide a great compliment in the Seattle backfield with Marshawn Lynch.
44. KC-Kirk Cousins QB/Michigan St.
Notes: If KC doesn't trade up for Ryan Tannehill, they will have to settle for a QB in the second round. Cousins is solid and can be developed into a very consistent QB.
45. DAL-Zach Brown OLB/UNC
Notes: The Cowboys' linebackers are an aging group that could use an athletic playmaker, and the drafting of Brown would provide that playmaker.
46. PHI-Bobby Wagner OLB/Utah St.
Notes: After adding Poe in round one, Bobby Wagner can add some versatility to an improving Eagles D that was terrible last season against the run.
47. NYJ-Devon Still DT/Penn St.
Notes: If the Jets pass on a defensive tackle in the first round like we have them doing, then Still would be a perfect pick here to fill their need at DT.
48. NE-Alfonzo Dennard CB/Nebraska
Notes: New England is going all D in the first couple rounds and adding Dennard to a up-and-coming secondary could be great.
49. SD-Coby Fleener TE/Stanford
Notes: A huge steal here. He probably won't fall this much, but the Chargers could take him here or in the first round as the eventual successor to Antonio Gates.
50. CHI-Jayron Hosley CB/Virginia Tech
Notes: Chicago was able to resign Tim Jennings, but that won't be enough to stop the pass effectively. Hosley is a solid CB that is very underrated.
51. PHI-Kevin Zeitler OG/Wisconsin
Notes: As stated before, Reid loves his lineman, and Zeitler would be a smart pick here by adding depth to the Eagles' offensive line.
52. TEN-Orson Charles TE/Georgia
Notes: Whether it's Hasselbeck or Locker, they will need some weapons. Tennessee's TE production has been down and to take pressure off an ailing Kenny Britt, Charles is a great choice.
53. CIN-Lamar Miller RB/Miami (FL)
Notes: Miller is that elusive playmaker out of the backfield that the Bengals need. Miller's speed could slingshot him into the first round.
54. DET-Brandon Brooks OG/Miami (OH)
Notes: By adding Adams in the first round and Brooks in the second round, the Lions can keep Stafford off his back and become that more deadly of an offense.
55. ATL-Brandon Thompson DT/Clemson
Notes: A large run stuffer is just what the Falcons need. Getting Thompson in the late second round is a great value.
56. PIT-Zebrie Sanders OT/Florida St.
Notes: An offensive line that couldn't stay healthy last year and could keep Big Ben from getting injured desperately needs help. Sanders is a very versatile lineman who can step in and start immediately.
57. DEN-Kelechi Osmele OT/Iowa St.
Notes: Osmele adds to the protection of superstar quarterback Peyton Manning. Protecting him should be a huge priority for the Broncos.
58. HOU-Trumaine Johnson S/Montana
Notes: The Texans secondary was vastly better last year with the addition of Jonathan Joseph, and Trumaine Johnson can only improve the secondary and help an already very good defense.
59. GB-LaMichael James RB/Oregon
Notes: Other than running back, the Packers offense is elite. James adds another dimension to their great offense that will only make the Packers better.
60. BAL-Ronnell Lewis OLB/Oklahoma
Notes: With the loss of Jarrett Johnson to free agency, the Ravens need to strengthen their linebacking core. Lewis can play both end and OLB, and is an aggressive player.
61. SF-Vinny Curry DE/Marshall
Notes: Curry adds another young pass rusher along with Aldon Smith. That combo could be great for years to come.
62. NE-Alamedu Ta'amu DT/Washington
Notes: New England is quietly putting together a solid defense through this draft, and Ta'amu was once considered a first rounder.
63. NYG-Dwight Bentley CB/Louisiana-Lafayette
Notes: One of ScoutHype's favorite players, Bentley would help fill the void in the Giants' secondary with the departure of Aaron Ross.

At last, here is the first installment of our 2012 NFL Mock Draft. For the 1.0 edition, we did not give our reasons as to why each player would be picked there, because we will be doing editing throughout the next few months until our final mock draft. Our rankings on where each team will draft are based on where we project the team to finish based on record.
